Texas Democrats Launch “Texas Offense” Initiative to Defeat Senator Ted Cruz in Upcoming Election
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — With 100 days left until the November election, Texas Democrats have unveiled a new initiative aimed at unseating US Senator Ted Cruz. The initiative, dubbed “Texas Offense,” is a concerted effort to support former NFL linebacker and attorney Democratic US Congressman Colin Allred in his bid to defeat Cruz.
Addressing a crowd at the White Oak Music Hall on Sunday, Allred confidently declared, “On Nov. 5, I’m going to defeat Ted Cruz.” State Senator Carol Alvarado echoed this sentiment, telling the audience, “In 100 days, we can say adios to Cruz and send him on a one-way flight to Cancun.”
Despite polls indicating Cruz as the frontrunner and his campaign having a financial advantage with $2 million more cash than Allred’s, the Democratic challenger has been successful in fundraising, outpacing Cruz’s previous challenger, Beto O’Rourke, who came close to unseating Cruz in the past election.
Supporters of Allred cited gun safety, border policy, and women’s reproductive rights as key issues that drove them to the rally. However, the event was not without disruptions, as protesters against the war in Gaza interrupted Allred’s remarks.
The initiative comes at a crucial time, with Democrats looking to capitalize on the momentum from Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ nomination. Concerns have been raised about President Biden’s low polling numbers potentially affecting competitive state races.
In response, Cruz has criticized Allred for his liberal stance and accused him of aligning too closely with Nancy Pelosi. Data from Voteview ranks Allred as the 69th most liberal democratic US Representative out of more than 200.
As the election draws near, the race between Cruz and Allred is expected to intensify, with both candidates vying for the support of Texas voters. Stay tuned for more updates on this story as it unfolds.
