Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves McConaughey Embrace Texas Living: A Look Inside Their Family’s Journey
Matthew McConaughey and wife Camila Alves McConaughey open up about their decision to leave their life in Malibu behind for a slower, more ritualistic lifestyle in Texas. The couple, who have been married for nearly 12 years and share three children, felt a strong pull towards the actor’s home state after visiting Austin during a family crisis.
During a drive back from seeing Matthew’s mother, Camila noticed the “gravity” that Texas held for her husband. At a red light, she blurted out, “You want to move here, don’t you?” and they both agreed that setting down permanent roots in Texas was the right move for their family.
Since making the move in 2014, the McConaugheys have noticed a positive impact on their family life. Time has slowed down, rituals have become more important, and the hospitality and courtesy of Texas residents have made a lasting impression on them.
For Camila, who is originally from Brazil, finding similarities between her home country and Texas helped her adjust to the move. The family now enjoys Sunday church, sports, and dinner together every night, creating a sense of ritual and togetherness that they cherish.
