Glen Powell Opens Up About Leaving Hollywood and Moving Back to Texas
Glen Powell, known for his roles in “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Set It Up,” recently made a life-changing decision to leave Hollywood and move back to his home state of Texas. The 35-year-old actor shared that after living in Los Angeles for over 15 years, he decided to relocate to Austin to be closer to his family and finish his degree at the University of Texas.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Powell revealed that fellow Texan Matthew McConaughey played a significant role in inspiring his decision to leave the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. McConaughey, who famously left Malibu for Austin with his family in 2014, shared with Powell his perspective on Hollywood being like the Matrix – a fake world where actions don’t hold the same weight as they do in the real world.
Powell recounted McConaughey’s advice, saying, “He’s like, ‘Then I go to Austin, and I unplug. It’s all real. Those are my friends, that’s my family, my actions matter there.’ And he’s right.”
Despite finding success in Hollywood with roles in major films like “Top Gun: Maverick,” Powell expressed his desire for a separation between his personal life and the Hollywood scene. He shared that as his parents grow older and his niece and nephew are growing up, he wants to prioritize his family and have a more grounded lifestyle.
Powell’s journey in Hollywood has been a rollercoaster, with highs like starring in hit movies and lows like struggling to land roles. However, he found solace in returning to his roots in Austin and reconnecting with his family. Powell’s decision to move back to Texas reflects a growing trend among celebrities seeking a more balanced and authentic life outside of the entertainment industry.
As Powell embarks on this new chapter in his life, he remains grateful for the opportunities Hollywood has provided him while also recognizing the importance of staying true to his roots and values. His story serves as a reminder that success in the entertainment industry doesn’t always equate to fulfillment, and sometimes the most meaningful rewards come from reconnecting with what truly matters in life.
