Improving Safety in the West 7th Entertainment District: Fort Worth’s New Plan
The city of Fort Worth is taking steps to improve safety in the popular West 7th entertainment district following the tragic fatal shooting of a TCU student last fall. The city council has authorized an agreement for an ambassador program in the neighborhood, which will be implemented by the company Block by Block.
The ambassadors will patrol the area late at night on weekends, acting as the eyes and ears for the police and providing assistance to the public if needed. They will not enforce laws but will alert police officers if they see any suspicious activity. The city hopes to start the program as soon as spring.
Residents and frequent visitors to the West 7th district have expressed their support for the program, believing that it will help prevent incidents before they escalate. The city has seen success with Block by Block ambassadors patrolling downtown Fort Worth, and they are optimistic that the program will be well-received in the West 7th neighborhood as well.
Before the ambassador program can begin, the city is waiting to receive a petition to create a West 7th Public Improvement District, which would fund various services in the Near Westside. Overall, the city is committed to making the West 7th entertainment district a safer and more enjoyable place for residents and visitors alike.
