State Rep. Eddie Rodriguez shifts focus to winning Democratic majority in Texas House
State Rep. Eddie Rodriguez has officially withdrawn from the race for Texas Senate District 14, following his defeat in the July runoff election. Despite trailing behind former Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt, Rodriguez remains committed to advancing a progressive agenda in the Texas House.
In a statement released on July 27, Rodriguez expressed his decision to shift his focus towards “winning a Democratic majority and promoting an aggressive, progressive agenda in the Texas House.” He emphasized the importance of the upcoming legislative session in shaping the future of Texas, highlighting key issues such as public health, economic recovery, redistricting, and social justice reform.
Rodriguez acknowledged the support he received during his Senate campaign from various progressive groups and individuals, expressing gratitude for their efforts. He also congratulated Eckhardt on her performance in the election and expressed his willingness to collaborate with her as Dean of the Travis County delegation.
By redirecting his efforts towards securing a Democratic majority in the Texas House, Rodriguez aims to champion policies that prioritize public education, healthcare access, gun violence prevention, criminal justice reform, and equality for all Texans. His decision reflects a strategic shift in advancing progressive values at the state level, with a focus on legislative priorities that resonate with the diverse communities of Texas.
