Composer of Franklin Theme Song Responds to Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” Comparisons

The internet is buzzing with claims that Beyoncé’s new song “Texas Hold ‘Em” bears a striking resemblance to the theme song of the beloved children’s series “Franklin.” The show’s composer, Bruce Cockburn, has responded to the comparisons, acknowledging the rhythmic similarities but clarifying that he had no part in writing Beyoncé’s hit.

Despite the comparisons, Cockburn praised Beyoncé’s song and wished her success with it. “Texas Hold ‘Em” has quickly climbed to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100, thanks in part to its popularity on TikTok, where users have been creating viral dances and interpretations of the track.

TikTok users have been quick to point out the similarities between “Texas Hold ‘Em” and the “Franklin” theme song, with one video overlaying both tracks to highlight the resemblance. Another user humorously captioned a video, “Pov: you’re a Canadian trying to figure out why Beyoncé’s new song sounds so familiar,” before realizing it was the sound of their childhood.

Beyoncé surprised fans by releasing “Texas Hold ‘Em” and another track, “16 Carriages,” on Super Bowl Sunday. Both songs will be featured on her upcoming country album, “Act II,” set to be released on March 29. In addition to claiming the top spot on the Hot 100, Beyoncé made history by becoming the first Black woman to top the Billboard Country Songs chart, joining the ranks of other female artists like Taylor Swift in achieving this milestone.
