Democratic Candidate Santos Limon Criticizes Report on Uvalde School Shooting and Republican Rival as “Rambo”
Democratic candidate Santos Limon, who is running to represent Uvalde, Texas, in Congress, has spoken out against the latest report on the 2022 school shooting, calling it an insult to grieving families. Limon also criticized his Republican rival, Brandon Herrera, as a would-be “Rambo” who is a poor role model for teenagers.
Limon, who won the Democratic primary for the state’s 23rd District, expressed his views in a phone interview where he discussed various topics, including the election, the Uvalde mass shooting, and the role of Elon Musk in Texas politics.
The race in the West Texas district is heating up, with Limon facing an uphill battle against Republicans who have historically held the seat. However, Limon believes his conservative views and the division among Republicans give him a fighting chance. The Republican nominee will be decided in a May 28 runoff primary between the incumbent, Tony Gonzales, and Brandon Herrera.
Guns have emerged as a major issue in the race, particularly due to the Uvalde school shooting that claimed the lives of 19 students and two teachers. The recent report by the Uvalde City Council on the shooting and law enforcement response has sparked controversy, with residents expressing anger and disbelief at the findings.
Limon criticized the report for blaming parents who tried to intervene during the shooting and questioned why similar gun laws like the one in Florida, which bars people under 21 from buying guns, have not been implemented in Texas.
The Republican primary candidates, Gonzales and Herrera, have differing views on gun safety laws, with Herrera being a staunch supporter of Second Amendment rights. Herrera, known as “The AK Guy” on YouTube, has drawn comparisons to the fictional character Rambo for his gun-related content.
Limon, a first-time political candidate, believes his conservative Democratic views align with the district’s values. He also expressed frustration with the lack of progress on issues like school shootings and illegal immigration, calling for a more proactive approach to addressing these challenges.
As the race heats up, the involvement of figures like Elon Musk and the ongoing debate on key issues like gun control and immigration will continue to shape the political landscape in Uvalde, Texas.
