Controversy Surrounds Billboard Accusing Jessica Cisneros of Being a “Home Wrecker” in Cuellar Runoff

The race for the Democratic nomination in South Texas has taken a scandalous turn as a billboard labeling progressive challenger Jessica Cisneros as a “home wrecker” has appeared in Laredo. The billboard accuses Cisneros, a 28-year-old immigration attorney, of having a relationship with a married man when she was in college.

Cisneros, who is challenging nine-term incumbent U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, has accused Cuellar of trying to bully and intimidate her with the billboard. Cuellar, whose district stretches from Laredo to San Antonio, has denied any involvement in the billboard, but records show that a firm with ties to the congressman purchased the ad space.

The controversy comes as Cisneros receives high-profile endorsements from U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, with U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders expected to rally with her in San Antonio. Cuellar, on the other hand, has received significant financial support from Laredo businessman David Killiam, who has donated heavily to GOP candidates as well.

The race between Cuellar and Cisneros has become increasingly heated, with both candidates vying for the Democratic nomination in the May 24 runoff. As early voting continues, the scandal surrounding the “home wrecker” billboard adds a new layer of drama to an already contentious race.
