AUSTIN — U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is making her way to Texas this weekend to show her support for Democratic congressional candidates Greg Casar and Jessica Cisneros. The New York Democrat, known for her progressive views, is set to visit San Antonio on Saturday and Austin on Sunday as early voting for the March 1 primary elections in Texas is about to begin.

Recent polling from the Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation reveals that Ocasio-Cortez is a polarizing figure in the state, with 70% of Texas Democrats viewing her favorably and 77% of state Republicans holding an unfavorable opinion of her. Despite this divide, she remains a well-known figure among both parties statewide.

Casar, a former Austin city councilmember, is running in the 35th Congressional District primary against state Rep. Eddie Rodriguez, while immigration attorney Cisneros is challenging incumbent Rep. Henry Cuellar in the 28th Congressional District. Cuellar, who recently had his home and campaign office raided by the FBI, is facing a tough reelection battle.

Ocasio-Cortez’s visit is expected to boost the campaigns of Casar and Cisneros, as she is popular among Democrats in the areas they are targeting. However, with the general election approaching, some strategists believe that Cisneros may need to distance herself from Ocasio-Cortez to appeal to a broader base of voters.

The congresswoman’s visit will include rallies in San Antonio and Austin, where she will discuss the importance of grassroots organizing and the state of the two races. Ocasio-Cortez’s presence is sure to energize supporters and draw attention to the candidates she is endorsing.

This is not the first time Ocasio-Cortez has shown support for Texas Democrats, as she has previously worked with state lawmakers on various issues. Her visit this weekend is expected to generate excitement and momentum for Casar and Cisneros as they head into the primary elections.

The Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation’s survey of registered voters in the state provides valuable insights into the political landscape and the opinions of Texans on Ocasio-Cortez and other prominent figures. As the primary elections draw near, all eyes will be on the outcome of the races Ocasio-Cortez is supporting.
