In an interview with CBS News Texas, Sheriff Brown expressed confidence in her performance, stating that she has kept her promise to voters and has been a good steward of their work. She believes she can win the primary without a runoff.

On the other hand, former Sheriff Valdez, who served from 2005 until 2017, highlighted concerns about the programs she implemented to reduce repeat offenders no longer being in place. She emphasized the importance of these programs in helping individuals restart their lives.

Sheriff Brown pointed to her accomplishments, including bringing the department into compliance for access to sensitive criminal justice information and implementing new systems in the jail. Valdez, on the other hand, reflected on the improvements she made during her tenure, transforming an overcrowded and unsanitary jail into a more functional facility.

The primary winner will face off against the Republican candidate in November, with the Democratic candidate likely to win in the majority Democratic county. The primary runoff will take place on May 28th if no candidate secures over 50% of the votes. Stay tuned for more updates on this closely watched race.
