Six Flags to Move Headquarters out of Texas After Merger with Cedar Fair

Six Flags, the Arlington-based theme park company, is set to move its headquarters out of Texas following the closing of a merger with Cedar Fair. The combined company will be headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., with significant finance and administrative operations in Sandusky, Ohio.

Despite the headquarters move, Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington will remain unaffected. Richard Zimmerman, president and CEO of Cedar Fair, will lead the combined company, while Selim Bassoul, president and CEO of Six Flags, will serve as Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Shareholders approved the merger on March 12, with the closing expected to take place on July 1 pending regulatory conditions. The companies announced their plans for the merger in November, with the Department of Justice conducting a review earlier this year.

The merger between Six Flags and Cedar Fair has sparked speculation about potential changes in the theme park industry, with some experts suggesting that the alliance could lead to the sale of certain park properties. Six Flags currently operates 27 properties, including Six Flags Over Texas and Cedar Fair’s lineup includes the Schlitterbahn Waterpark & Resort in New Braunfels.

The move of Six Flags’ headquarters out of Texas marks a significant shift for the company, but it also signals a new chapter in the amusement park industry as two iconic companies come together to create a stronger presence in North America.
