Texas Climate Smart Initiative Offers Incentives for Farmers and Ranchers
The Texas Climate Smart Initiative, led by Texas A&M AgriLife Research, is offering financial incentives for farmers, ranchers, and small forest owners statewide who volunteer to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices. This initiative aims to help producers improve resilience to climate change and mitigate its effects through the adoption of sustainable practices.
Participants selected through an application process will receive guidance and support from representatives of the Texas Climate Smart Initiative. Those who have already implemented climate-smart practices are also eligible for incentives. The initiative will work with producers to develop models for voluntary, market-based climate solutions.
Julie Howe, Ph.D., a soil chemistry and fertility professor at Texas A&M, emphasized the importance of Texas’ diverse agriculture and natural resources in creating scalable solutions for climate change. The project’s goal is to not only benefit Texas producers but also serve as a model for other regions in the nation.
Interested individuals can apply on the Texas Climate Smart Initiative website and find more information about the incentives available. This initiative presents a unique opportunity for farmers, ranchers, and small forest owners to contribute to climate resilience and sustainability in Texas.
