Fort Worth City Council Approves Ambassador Program to Improve Safety in West 7th Entertainment District

The city of Fort Worth is taking steps to improve safety in the popular West 7th entertainment district following a tragic fatal shooting of a TCU student last fall. With concerns about safety in the area, the city has authorized an agreement for an ambassador program to be implemented in the neighborhood.

The program, provided by Block by Block, will involve ambassadors patrolling the neighborhood late at night on weekends, acting as the eyes and ears for the police. These ambassadors will not enforce laws but will provide assistance to the public and alert police officers if they see any suspicious activity.

Residents and frequent visitors to the West 7th entertainment district have expressed their support for the program, believing it will help prevent incidents before they escalate. The city of Fort Worth has seen success with Block by Block ambassadors patrolling downtown in the past, and they hope for a similar positive reception in the West 7th neighborhood.

The city is waiting to receive a petition to create a West 7th Public Improvement District, which would fund various services in the Near Westside, before beginning the ambassador program. Overall, the initiative aims to make the popular nightlife area safer and more welcoming for residents and visitors alike.
